Problems with Arla 0.36.1 on Linux 2.4.26

I'm trying to start using Arla on a Debian Sarge GNU/Linux laptop. I had
been using OpenAFS, but I read a message on the OpenAFS list that your
cache performance is better, so I wanted to give Arla a whirl.

I compiled the kernel module by doing this:

# make clean
# ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc/arla
--with-arlacachedir=/var/cache/arla --with-arlaconffile=/etc/arla.conf
--mandir=/usr/share/man --libexecdir=/usr/sbin --infodir=/usr/share/info
--with-sys="/usr/src/kernel-headers-2.4.26-1-686/"
# make -C nnpfs/linux nnpfs.o

I then copied the kernel module into my kernel modules directory, did
depmod -a, and then modprobe nnpfs. So far, so good.

My MAKEDEV doesn't have nnpfs, so I did MAKEDEV xfs, and then moved xfs0
to nnpfs0. I mounted a 2 GiB loopback filesystem in /var/cache/arla.

I then did apt-get install arla. It seemed to configure and install fine,
but this happens, both as a user and as root:

paulproteus at napoleon:~$ ls /afs
ls: /afs: No such device

napoleon:/home/paulproteus# ls /afs
ls: /afs: No such device

My nnpfs0 device seems fine:

napoleon:/dev# ls -l nnpfs0
crw------- 1 root root 103, 0 Jun 25 12:59 nnpfs0

And the kernel module seems to be installed fine, with no messages to
dmesg:

napoleon:/dev# lsmod | grep nnp
nnpfs 207440 1

Please help! Thanks,

Asheesh Laroia.

The question is, why are politicians so eager to be president? What is it
about the job that makes it worth revealing, on national television, that
you have the ethical standards of a slime-coated piece of industrial waste?
