Shared Libraries on Linux

Arla Folk,

I'm having issues building shared libraries on Fedora Core 2. The libs
get build properly but they lack the .so* extension. I do have
--enable-shared=yes in the configure command. This is what I see:

gcc -shared .libs/sl.o .libs/strtok_r.o .libs/snprintf.o .libs/strdup.o
.libs/strupr.o .libs/getprogname.o -lreadline -ltermcap -lresolv
-lcrypt -march=i386 -mcpu=i686 -Wl,-soname -Wl,libsl.0 -o .libs/libsl.0.1.2

Libtool and autoconf are not my friends. :-)
