I installed the pre-compiled binaries from

<ftp://ftp.stacken.kth.se/pub/arla/binaries/0.35.11/MacOS-X-10.2/arla- 
0.35.11-MacOS-X-10.2.tar.gz>

Which gives you a arla-0.35.11.pkg file for Apple's Installer.app to  
process.
