Milko - dead or alive?

Hello,

what is the current status of milko? After some CVS browsing I get the
impression that development on milko is more or less dead at the moment.
Is this correct?

What type of work needs to be done in milko? Is there anything that
doesn't require intimate knowledge of AFS itself? (Speaking now as
someone who still hasn't gotten OpenAFS to work.)

And speaking of which - is there any documentation somewhere on AFS (the
protocol)?
