Stale NFS file handle

Running RH 7.3 with kernel 2.4.18-10 and arla 0.35.9.

Lately there have been problem with the filesystem. Occasionally (and I 
can't relate it to anything specific) the afs-filesystem becomes 
unreachble and any action which tries to use the file system results in 
the message "Stale NFS file handle". There are no nfs-deamons running, 
and no nfs-filesystem is mounted.

Not certain, but I think I have had this problem with the 2.4.18-5 
kernel also.

Any hints?
