freebsd 4.3R and current ports

I'm trying to get arla from the current ports collection working in
FreeBSD 4.3R on i386. Here is the error I get when running startarla.

foo# startarla
kldload: can't load /usr/local/bin/xfs.ko: Exec format error
mount_xfs: mount: Exec format error

The below shows up in xconsole: 
link_elf: symbol crhold undefined

Any ideas? 

foo# file /usr/local/bin/xfs.ko
/usr/local/bin/xfs.ko: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version
1 (FreeBSD), stripped
