no AFS in Mac OS X Classic?

As far as I can tell, Arla works great for me in Mac OS X.  However, 
I can't seem to see it (/afs) from Classic. Since I see an "afs" 
volume in my OS X desktop, I expected to see an "afs" volume in 
Classic's file selection dialog.  I saw a note in 
<http://www.stanford.edu/~akosut/macosx/krb-arla.txt> that AFS 
doesn't work in Classic, but why doesn't it work?  Is this a problem 
with the Finder?
