Bad interaction in MacOS X

Running arla ...pre2 seems to conflict with the software update
process. The "optimizing" step hangs about 1/3 through unless I
reboot without arla.

Notes: I also shut off classic. I had the root account enabled, but
was not running the update from there. (Would that fix the problem?)
I had the same problem when the update was downloaded with a web
browser and run directly in the installer.

I can live with this quirk, but it should be published so other
people don't get bitten by it. Also note that the 10.0.2 package
*did* install, it was the (probably useful) optimization step that
failed.

I should also say that this is the only problem I have observed with
arla on MacOS X so far. Massive find/grep's of the archived DS1
spacecraft commands run a lot faster than they do on the Sun
Ultra-1's the project is otherwise using.
