This looks like pthreads; For some reason the current glibc pthreads makes
the pthread wrapper code not work; It used to work, and something changed
in glibc. If I ever get some time I'd like to try to figure out what's
going on, but what's free time?

Use lwp directly unless you have a good reason not to. (for debugging, lwp
not supported on your platform, etc)
