Problems with arla-0.24 and Linux 2.2.9

After compiling arla-0.24 on several other systems, all running
linux 2.2.5 or 6 or 7 or 8 or 9, I have been unable to duplicate
this problem, even on the machine on which it originally occurred.
Temporary glitch?
