I tried to connect to Elvira, KTH's simulated PDP-11. I reached the
log-in screen, but the guest user 99,99, password=user wasn't
accepted. Has the guest password been changed?

Hi!

No, the password is not changed.
Some telenet clients add some extra characters when pressing <enter>
so at the User: prompt you can just try "99,99;user" if that is the 
problem.

I've enjoyed getting reaquainted with Elvira, but have a couple of
questions that I think I once knew but have forgotten.

1. Elvira sometimes ignores the first key I press when entering a
   command. Is this a RSTS problem, or do I need to change my client
   settings?

2. I found the C compiler, cc, but forgot how to make an executable .sav
   file from the .s file cc produces. (C is the only programming
   language on Elvira other than BASIC and DCL, isn't it?)

Hello!
Well this message came trough anyway. What is the error message you get?

1. Take a look at your client settings. Tere is only one thing that "eats" 
charcters and that is when you send a <CR><LF> sequence the <LF> is 
removed as some windows telnet always sent an <LF> after you press enter. 
So tp be able to login  you had to use the 99,99;password method.

2. The decus C-compiler resides on c: with related stuff.
To build a simple c-program you can use the command:
ate c:cbld, file

I have just added fortran iv and fortran-77 if that is of interest :-/

try:
ate [1,4]forbld.cmd, file

There is a pascal-compiler somewhere if i find it i may try to install it.

I have noticed that the problem does not occur depending on which client
I am using. I will compare settings and see if I can identify the one
that is problematic on some of my clients.

Thank you, again. Unfortunately, the following source, which works on
other systems:

... gives the following compiler report:

I've gone through several manuals, but can't figure out how to get the
compiler to print a listing so I can figure out what is causing the
error. Do you have any idea?

I've copied two versions of the classic Star Trek BASIC game to ELVIRA:

- SPACWR.BAS: David Ahl's 1973 DEC BASIC port of Mike Mayfield's
  original Sigma 7/HP BASIC game.

- STRTRK.BAS: David Ahl's 1974 BASIC-PLUS rewrite (instructions
  print-out in STRTR1.BAS). Formatting of some of the reports is
  slightly off, but I think these are 50-year-old bugs.

I've compiled both programs. You can start them by logging-in to ELVIRA
and running one of the following commands:

  RUN SPACWR

  RUN STRTR1

There's a little documentation in SPACWR.DOC and STRTRK.DOC.
