Something in openssl detection doesn't work properly. In some cases it used
to work if you did configure <...> CFLAGS=-DHAVE_OPENSSL or so, but I
thought that was supposed to be corrected by now. There's a --with-openssl
flag too, but I never had any luck with it.

Do you have an openssl/des.h?

If you could share your config.log (url or off list) I'd be interested.
