kernel oops under heavy load

Hej!

I have a serious problem with arla under heavy load. I tried to copy a 
directory tree (slightly less than 1GB) to the local file system. After 
having transferred a few hundred MB, arlad died. The crash is reproducible, 
but the number of sucessfully transferred data varies.

The command:

cd <afs-directory> ; tar cf - . | ( cd /usr/local ; tar xf - )

My attempts:
1. SuSE Linux 9.1, kernel 2.6.5-7.147(SuSE), arla arla-0.36-5.src.rpm
(no messages in the log when arlad died)
2. kernel 2.6.11 (vanilla), arla 0.38
