AFS as home directory on OSX 10.1

I am curious. I am using OSX 10.1 and just set up a test user. I set
that user's home directory in AFS. I have _not_ loaded arla on login.
When I login as that user and the finder launches, AFS is already
mounted _and_ arla is running.

How does the system know that arla is the appropriate client to run for
AFS? Am I missing something?

Feature or bug? You decide - but the functionality is just what I wanted!
