Out of curiosity I performed some archaeology in these matters (without
reading any backup tapes). Old RCS logs have the line
date: 1993/12/30 10:58:50; author: bg; state: Exp;
in them.
So, I would guess that I started hacking on this in the fall of 93,
and had a working read only-implementation in winter 94. Time flies.
