arla finder problem

What I have noticed (under 10.0) is that I needed to authenticate 
before I got anywhere close to an AFS directory in the finder.  If I 
tried finder access before authenticating then the inaccessibility of 
things would be cached by the finder and not updated in any 
reasonable time.
