OK, I've now got another machine running linux-2.3.99-pre6 (with
no PCMCIA, thank God, just ordinary networking with an EEPro100)
and arla-0.33. This is what happens:

$ uname -a
Linux avl 2.3.99-pre6 #1 Tue May 9 17:02:39 BST 2000 i686 unknown
$ ls /afs/mcc/
$
Message from syslogd at avl at Tue May 9 17:38:40 2000 ...
avl kernel: xfs_readdir: page not uptodate
$ cd ftp
$ ls
$ cd pub
$ ls
$ cd linux
$ ls
$ cd kernel
$ ls
$ cd v2.3
$ ls
LATEST-IS-2.3.99-pre6           linux-2.3.99-pre6.tar.bz2.sign
...

In other words, it seems to see nothing in the first few directories,
and everything in /afs/mcc/ftp/pub/linux/kernel/v2.3. I then
stopped arla, deleted everything in the cache, and started again.
Same deal.
