arla on FreeBSD 4.0 + Linuxulator anyone?

Still no cigar with 0.33.1 + patch.  It seems to happen somewhere in
stat.  Here's the last output of truss (I suspect it happens just a
little bit later, but acroread is definitely in a stat loop.):
