Arla under FreeBSD 3.1-stable

Howdy all,
    I'm still having trouble with getting arla-0.23 to work under FreeBSD.
Is there anyone who has any version of arla working under FreeBSD 3.1-stable?
Can you please get in touch with me to help me figure the problem out?  I've
configured with "./configure --prefix=/usr/local/arla --enable-kld --without-x"
and the make completes fine and install fine, but when I run the startarla
script in /usr/local/arla/bin the machine hangs and I have to power-cycle it.
