afs_strerror()?

There exist a thing like this:
lib/ko/koerror.c:char *koerr_gettext(koerr_t err)

This is wrong, and koerror_gettext was older, the name is not really
that great, but it also does things like strerror(). Like a one
wayentry for all num2str errors.
