What's your timezone?  Is it really supposed to be `/etc/localtime'?

That should work.  Did you try the instructions in INSTALL?

I believe this is the result of versioned vs non-versioned kernel
module support in Linux.  Hopefully someone more linux-savy can reply
to this.
